This is a fantastic Gucci from the Fall 2001 season. It is a dress that was produced for the shops but still has that vibe of the collection that season. During this time period Tom Ford was the Creative Director and was breathing new life into the label. He was known for his slick and simple yet still sexy silhouettes that highlighted every curve of a woman's body. He took over the label in 1994 and his presence was a game changer. His modern take revived the label and brought in a younger audience. In 2001 he was on the top of his game and everyone who was anyone was wearing Gucci. 

At first glance this is a dress that seems so simple and it definitely will appeal to my minimalist girls but at the same time it completely highlights and shows off the body. The top has a soft drape to the neckline and the straps are wide and curve over the shoulders. It is sleeveless and the shape is created by a combination of the stretch of the jersey and how the fabric has been gathered in along the seams that run down each side. This started at about the hip area and runs down to about the knee. It gives the dress its slightly ruched and gathered effect across the body. It is a simple design choice that is a genius way to add detail and shape. The dress skims over the body and highlights your every curve but without feeling restrictive. Ford's genius lay in his ability to choose fabrics that clung to the body but also flattered them. You felt sexy in the dresses but at the same time they were insanely comfortable to wear.  It continues past the waist and over the hips and then falls with a slight widening out as it in nears the hem. This is the dress that you will throw on when you want to feel fantastic but with no fuss. You can wear it with flats or heels and it will dramatically change the feel of the dress. I love it. It appears to have been worn very little if at all. Excellent condition.

Made of a double layer of the same fabric and slips on with no closures. Tagged a vintage Gucci 40. The fabric does have stretch and I've put the comfortable range of measurements below
